Pastor Gladwin Dean Smith is the Senior Pastor of the Open Door Christian Assembly. He is a devoted father, husband and man of God who has a passion for ministering the Word of God. Pastor Dean cherishes his wife of 35 years, Jonelle, and they are blessed with three beautiful daughters.
Pastor Smith is the youngest of 6 boys born to the late Bishop Chauncey and Louise Smith who left him a Godly heritage in word and deed, a heritage that he endeavors to impart on those he comes into contact with. Pastor Smith was educated at St. George’s Secondary, the Technical Institute and the Bermuda Hotel & Catering College where he graduated with honors. Pastor Dean has also undertaken extensive courses in Preaching, Counseling, Doctrine and Worship Leading.
Serving people has always been one of Pastor Dean’s passions, which allowed him to enjoy a long career in the Hospitality Industry, where he started out as a Busboy at the Pink Beach Club, and then moved to Grotto Bay as Assistant Maitre’d and was quickly promoted to Maitre’d. While working full time in the hotel industry Pastor Dean believed the Lord was laying the foundation for him to eventually leave the industry and move into service for the Kingdom.
Pastor Dean’s early Ministry included worshiping at the Marsden Methodist Memorial Church where he served as Young Adult Sunday School Teacher, Youth Choir Director, Local and Itinerant Lay Preacher and Assistant Sunday School Superintendent. Pastor Smith then felt the call to go into the Ministry full time – stepped out in faith – and the Open Door Christian Assembly was formed on November 17th 1991 with just 6 adults. Pastor Smith was officially ordained on July 10, 1994 by the late Bishop Goodwin Smith and his father, the late Bishop Chauncey Smith.
He currently serves on the Board of S.T.A.R as the Spiritual Advisor. He also sits as a Panel Member at Family court and is involved in the Big Brothers & Sisters program. He has ministered in many churches around the island and also overseas.God has gifted Pastor Dean to teach the word with clarity and simplicity. Pastor Smith says his desire is to help families who have lost their sense of purpose and direction by offering them hope through the Word of God.
