Pastor George E.W. Smith

Pastor Smith is the eldest of six sons born to the late Bishop Chauncey Smith and Mother Louise Smith. After primary school Pastor Smith attended The Bermuda Technical Institute and later, The Adult Education School where he also served as a tutor. He has also successfully completed courses in Industrial Relations and Bible Studies.

Pastor George, as he is fondly known, wears many hats and is a true servant at heart. A devoted Minister of the Gospel, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he serves in the capacity of the Associate Enrollment Director of Heritage International Scholarship Trust Fund. He was part- owner of The Christian Book Store and Gift Center, Chairperson of the Credit Committee of the B. I. U. Members Credit Union, Trustee of the Construction Pension Fund and a member of the Special Panel of Family Court of which he is still serving.

Pastor George is thankful to God for God fearing parents who never allowed him to decide whether or not to attend church, he notes that “HE HAD NO CHOICE” in the matter and on December 10th, 1972 at Faith Tabernacle, where his father was the Pastor George took the ultimate step of faith and made Jesus Christ the Savior and Lord of his life. Today Pastor George continues to give God glory for his parents who have 3 sons as Pastors in Bermuda and 1, a minister in his church in Florida. He began ministry almost immediately as a Gospel Radio Announcer at Z. F. B.

He fondly remembers the honor of being able to travel and minister with his father. One of the founding members of (Y.E.G.B.) Young Evangelist Group of Bermuda, he hosted a local Christian Television Talk Show, and participated in Evangelistic Crusades in Bermuda, Jamaica and South Africa. Pastor George has ascended the ladder of some spiritual success in Christ. He has been a Sunday School Teacher, New Converts Class Leader, Choir Member and after being appointed an ordained Elder became an Associate Minister.

In 2002 the Lord Himself called Pastor George into a higher calling in promoting him to the Pastorate of Restoration Fellowship Church. A church which was born out of a sincere and fervent desire for Christian Character, Love, Truth, Honesty and a willingness to live the word of God. Pastor George believes that God is in control of his life and will follow the Lord’s leading wherever it takes him. At this time in his life he believes the Lord had led him out of the pastorate into evangelism. He is now the Associate Pastor of Open Door Christian Assembly where his youngest brother Gladwin (Dean) is the Senior Pastor.

A man of humility and servant-hood, a true worshiper and love of the Lord, Pastor George makes himself readily available first, to God and then to whomever or where ever the Lord chooses. He consistently gives the Lord praise, honor and glory and is ALWAYS heard saying “GIVE HIM GLORY’. One of his favorite scriptures is found in Galatians 6 verse 7 which reads, “Be not deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap”. This is probably the text from which he derives one of his favorite sayings “You cannot plant carrots and get potatoes”.
